Open Minds Retain A Free Society

If your views and opinions are so closed that you won't even consider what someone else has to say or check facts that support your own opinion then you do not have the skills, and perhaps the moral right, to retain a free society.
A closed mind and blind eyes are simply not smart. If you were standing on train tracks with your eyes closed and someone was screaming at you to move, would you move? Do you keep your eyes closed, or do you at least open them to look for yourself? Would you knowingly elect or support someone who actions would disgust you, who may only have evaded jail because of the wealth to buy good lawyers, political favors, and out of trouble.....?
O.J. walked, but we all know in our hearts he was guilty of murder.

How can anyone trust or respect this guy?

How about this watching this one? Can your mind be so closed that you refuse to listen to anything someone else may have to say?

It just seems to me that we need to be bigger than ourselves. Our responsibility is to ourselves, but in our Constitution it is also to each other.
One of my own set of ideas and PROOF that our economy does better under Democrats and worse under Republicans is at:
http://patriotsandpartisans.blogspot.com/

Ignorance and greed are two of the worst enemies to people who seek to live free, and they are pervasive in society as never before, at least in my own memory of American life.
I can't see allowing what we have attained to be cast away. I see real dangers coming from many directions. I see not enough being done to insure the place in the world we have attained. I see many of our own people selling us out, unwilling to make sacrifices or to work to make society better, and see people clinging to lies and misrepresentations with false justifications that have no place in rational thought.
I thought it was accepted that socialist and communist and totalitarian states concentrated wealth and power to a few "elite" and divested wealth and power from everyone else, who was either administrative or working class. To me, this is what Republicans have done and what their objective is. Real wealth, despite a great rise in productivity and generation of wealth, has been taken from the middle and working class and been shifted unfairly to the most wealthy who control and manipulate where that wealth goes and how it is distributed. They spend vast sums of money to insure the tax structure favors themselves as well.
It is not middle class Democrats who close profitable manufacturing factories here in America and send those jobs to places like China, where the state owns the bank and they devalue their currency making our imports costly to Chinese society and their products cheap, cheaper than the free market would dictate, here on our shores.
This make the wealthy and corporations, who pay dividends to the wealthy, richer in the short term. But long term, with no one working and the middle class losing buying power, and having no disposable income to start new business, send their kids to college, or buy goods and services, there is not enough common wealth to produce economic growth or sustain new growth, or to maintain any stable current level of production and consumption.
The power of wealth has used that power for years to shift the burden off of itself and onto any open resource of wealth available. This is why the savings and Loans crashed under Reagan. This is the cause for our most recent crash. Deregulation allows the wolves to attack the herd. It is what caused the Great Depression in part. Crop failure from abuse of land was just part of a compounding problem, not the cause.
Regulation to keep business in the light of day and accountable is nothing to fear except those seeking to raid for short term gain. It makes stable growth possible. It sustains and keeps things fair. Only a crook wants the cops to go away.
Right now we need to reinvest in ourselves.
FDR's efforts quite possibly saved us from a socialist revolution. Two Republicans, Teddy Roosevelt and Ike, worked to insure greed and abuse did not hurt America. We must learn to be pragmatic, and stop treating the Constitution as a dead document fixed in time. It is dynamic, and was intended to be. The morality of it is fixed though. It says for us to be free, be fair, be secure ourselves by caring for each other and acting in the best interest of the whole, while defending personal choice and liberty above all else.
There is much for us to fix, but we cannot do that with a selfish dog eat dog Libertarian Wild West attitude, where anything goes in the pursuit of wealth. That creates abuse, and is no different that what abusive socialists, like many South American nations, and communists, like China and North Korea, and religious zealot states like Iran practice.
They also want the "elite" to control wealth and power and manipulate things to keep it that way.
beware of any fanatics, especially those unwilling to even discuss compromise and work together to find solutions.
